It’s “Putty Time” with Timbermate
Timbermate’s water-based woodfiller putty never goes bad. This is a 75 year old product that has been manufactured in Australia since 1992 and available in the U.S. since 2001. Woodcraft has been selling Timbermate’s woodfiller since 2008. It contains no acrylic or latex and is freeze-thaw stable. Woodcraft’s product development analyst, Kent Harpool calls this product, “garage stupid & idiot proof”, because it is reconstitutable by water and microwave, as well as being very easy to use.

THE Best Wood Filler. Period.
Wow. This stuff simply works great. I've tried many other fillers which claim to be "stainable" and this is the only one which absorbs the stain as well as wood. Other fillers will not absorb the stain, and it simply stays on the surface. Watch the associated videos for this product and will you find a lot more uses for it. It will definitely become a part of your standard kit, as it has mine. Great, great product.

Smooth, easy to work and dries fast.
Used only on one project, filling screw holes. I usually plug the holes with wood plugs, cut and sand. This time I used Timbermate instead and was satisfied with the result. It easily filled the screw holes and adhered to surface much better than other fillers. Since the filler is smooth and somewhat flowable, it doesn't leave small "pits" as much as other fillers. It also blends in better after surface sanding. However, like most most all fillers, more than one application may be necessary to completely blend in area filled. I might add, it is not cheap, [$]+ for 8oz.[...]

Just simply great!
Did not want the stark grain pattern of oak and at the suggestion of Woodcraft's technical staff I tried Timbermate with a dye stain and it worked great.

Good Product but not perfect
I bought this product because I saw some reviews saying that it would take stains very, very well. Most wood fillers take stains very poorly, so this seemed great. I say that it takes stain pretty well, but far from perfectly. I know of nothing better though. It is very easy to work with, very easy to clean up.
