Get A Handle On Knife Making And Stay Sharp
From cutting and marking in the shop, to hunting and camping, to preparing a simple meal, a good knife is indispensable. Mass-produced knives can be found for every budget and use. But custom knives, which are often far more attractive, tend to get expensive very quickly.
Of course, the ultimate custom knife would include a hand-forged and hand-sharpened blade. If you’re not up for the expense and dirty work of such an endeavor, you can still experience the pride of a well-crafted and functional addition to your tool collection. All you need is a knife kit.

Great Blade
I ditched the rivets and ground off the ridges. Then I reworked the tang to fit through a Bear's head finger guard and attached it to an Elk horn brow tine. It made a super fantastic knife. Too bad I can't upload a photo, it's one awesome looking, functional knife. I made it as a gift and the owner said they use it all the time!

Gorgeous
This knife is bar far one of the slickest looking useful knives I have made. The edge is extremely sharp and the heft is perfect for those jobs that demand some serious hand-held real estate like fish, wild game. Tantos are beautiful knives in the first place because of the elegant design, but create your own handle and it is guaranteed to be a collectible keepsake. The Woodcraft price is the best I have found. ~Hugh Rardin

Finger too close to the edge
I just finished one of your Tanto kits. The build and finish were straight forward enough. Looks nice. But, when I showed it to some people who used knifes, the first thing they said was, "you are going to cut yourself if you stab something with that". The finger cutout is right at the cutting edge of the blade. I am going to file down the first 1/2 inch of the cutting edge to make this knife safer. I have another kit and plan to modify the scales to cover that part of the blade. It really should be redesigned, for safety.

ditch the threaded rivets
Knife itself is nice, a great value. Threaded rivets are not worth the hassle. To use them you have to thin the handle stock so they can sit on top or countersink each side of the handle exactly so that the threads meet but are not loose. With typical 3/8 scales that means counter sink depths of 1/8 to 3/16 per side. Make sure you have a drill press or a tight stop collar on your bit for countersinking and a very sharp bit to avoid tearing out the hole. Much easier to pay a couple of dollars for steel or brass pin stock that can simply be cut to length and sits flush with the surface.

Couldn't be more pleased!
I ordered the Tanto, the Spear Point and the Skinner. These blades are very substantial and arrived on the day promised. What an incredible value at $9.99 each but are worth the full price. I can't wait to complete these.... heading to Woodcraft tomorrow to pick out some dimensional exotic wood! Thanks Woodcraft! Very pleased with you guys!

Awesome knife kit
What makes this kit great is that you can finish it in a weekend! It is a quality knife kit and fun to make. You do not need the countersinks, as I used drill bits from an index, just use calipers to find the right sizes. If you do not have a drill index, then countersinks to match may be the way to go, but I have not used them. Thanks for reading!

Great kit, well balanced knife
I use the knife primarily as a work tool, but its balance and, so far, edge holding ability is excellent.

Reasonable knife kit.
This knife kit is pretty solid. I was not a fan of the rivets supplied so I am using just using peened steel rod instead. The blade does show signs of tool marks but its nothing a few passes with sandpaper could not fix. I am using paduk for the scales I do wish there was a model with a steel or brass bolster.

Great Knife Blade
This is really a great blade! I would have given it a 5 rating if came with almost ANY other pin type for attaching the scales. Corby rivets, Loveless bolts or even plain old compression rivets would be a better choice in my opinion. Overall, the blade is well made of heavy stainless steel of seemingly good quality. I didn't use the lanyard hole but it's there if one wants to install one. I would recommend this knife to anyone.

Great kit
Easy to work with, everything came together for a great fit.
-
very nice looking
I only have had time to look at this blade because less then a week from delivery my shop burned down. so its still on my desk.

Lots of fun
This is a fun simple project that can be done by a beginner with limited tools. I completed this with the countersinks, epoxy, clamps, and file set.
-
excellent knife kit for the price
the screw together rivets have small heads that were almost useless unless (I assume) you buy their special stepped bit. I will be using squeeze rivets with their larger heads

Awesome knives!
These are awesome knives!

Nice starter knife kit
The only draw back is that there are no "alinement pins" included for the handle sides, I had to "make" alinement pins using nails, 2 different size pieces of (color coded) rod that fit the holes in the blank would greatly aid in the alinement and drilling
