Not for large hands
Even though I'm returning these I'm still giving them 4 stars. Steel is extremely good and holds an edge. Out of the box hair shaving razor sharp, just the shape and size of the handles feel small and clumsy in my larger hands. I would highly recommend these for someone with smaller hands. As a reference I wear large to extra large gloves.

Great tools at low price
Other reviewers are correct. While these tools are reasonably priced, do not be fooled - they are great quality. The bevels are fairly shallow, making for easier cutting, The steel appears top-rate, holding the edge for a long time. I use these all the time for detail work and texturing. The pencil-like grips allow for comfortable detail work. Beginners will enjoy this set, but I have used them for years for almost all of my carvings. Great value.

Good Starter Set
These are pretty much ready to go right away. One of the blades had nicks in it and had to be ground and honed quite a bit at first but they all hold their edges pretty well as long as I strop them after about 30 minutes of use. It's easy to get focused on a project and let the edges dull a little too much and I have had to sharpen them a couple of times. They are really great for a beginner but definitely not all one needs. I also bought a jack knife and a chip carving knife which I use quite a bit along with these. I would definitely recommend these to anyone!

Edge holds well
I thought it would be interesting to try my had at carving some simple projects. Bought this set as well as flexcut carving tool set of 4. The edge held well I just honed after every session so it would be nice and sharp for use.

Excellent Buy
Excellent set. Extremely Sharp, ready to use, comfortable to hold, manuverable, quality steel, holds edge well. What else can I say, this is a quality set for a reasonable price. I only wish they offered more of these in a wider variety of sweeps and sizes, I would buy a full set, reguardless of the price.

Great tools for the price
I started doing relief carving on furniture pieces at the request of my customers. My only regret is that there isn't a wider variety of gouges.
