Better off buying something cheap
The only good thing about this is that the guide line is lined up in the middle of each dowel hole. I needed it for a 3/16th dowel, which cost $25 extra, and when I got the 3 pack bushing, it didn't fit into the jig. Waste of money. Will be returning

I was skeptical
I'm not a fan of dowels to begin with but had an application to join two halves of a carved sign and needed the dowels to help maintain alignment while glue cured. I also was skeptical of the design of this tool and had feared that it wouldn't be very repeatable. Boy, was I wrong! This is a great little jig and it maintained alignment and tightened down easily and robustly on the material. I am impressed. I'll probably be looking for other areas to use it now.

Worked Great for Novice
I am an very novice woodworker. I used this jig to edge join some 1x pieces. I found it to be intuitive to use, and very precise. If you misalign the mark on the jig and your pencil line on the work piece even by a hair, it will affect the alignment of the pieces. I used a pencil that produced a line of the same width as the mark on the jig, and I got perfect results.

Could be improved
This product would be greatly improved if it had alignment lines on the jig that would locate the center of the holes. These could be lined up with a pencil line on the work piece so that it would become a precision tool.

Task Premium Doweling Jig
as I have 30+ years of custom woodworking experience I have used many doweling jigs(some to my displeasure)the self-centering feature, the different size bushings & ease in changing them-all add to the best doweling jig I've ever used-I'm currently using it on the building of "Heirloom quality" desk- A+ in my book

Task doweling jig
Killer, well-machined and sturdy tool. Extremely accurate with zero set-up time and learning curve. The centering lines that can be viewed through the opening on the side are a nice value-add for applications where the preset locations are ineffective. I am very pleased and it is well worth the money. My only wish is that I could buy a single version that has both wide capacity, and 4 tapped bushing holes.

Nice!
This thing is made like a tank, I belive it will last for a very LONG time before it gets damaged. It is very very easy to use, and you get consistent results with it every time. I only wish it came with more 3/8" bushings, instead of 2 each of 1/4", 5/16" and 3/8", but this is only due the fact that I dont think I will ever use 1/4" nor 5/16" dowels, but on second thought, I guess its better to have the tool and dont need it, than needing it and not having it. And after all, you can buy extra bushings for cheap. Its a nice jig and would buy it again, maybe if someone stole mine, because other than that I dont belive this thing will give up anytime soon.

Great Tool! Very solid!
I've used this jig for cabinet building projects, and it works great every time! The construction is all solid CNC machined metal, so you know the hole will be drilled right every time. The jig fastens very securely to your work piece, and the bushings fit the drill bits perfectly. It's well worth paying a little extra to get the premium version.

Simple and well made
A simple effective jig that can have its performance improved by making a couple of shopmade items. Firstly an adjustable rod with 5/16 or 3/8 pins that fit into the last hole drilled and the last drill insert on the jig. this allows accurate positioning along a long joint. The second is a set of shims(1/16, 1/8, 1/4 & 1/2") that have hook shaped slots that fit over the guide rails of the jig. It allows joints to be offset for legs so there is more room for corner blocks or if you want to have a double row of dowells for a stronger joint. I hope TASK sees this and makes these items as an optional extra. (Dowelmax supply them as standard with their jig)

Great jig!
Very useful and time saving jig.

Got the job done.
I used this jig in my woodworking club at school. The kids and I used this to make simple but joints for 4X6 picture frames. The only error came from moving too fast to get the project done. When time was taken, all the students were able to drill properly placed holes and in the end, the parents were jumping for joy. It works great and will be in my shop for a long time, or until it gets run over by a tank.

Excellent Jig
Does exactly what it's supposed to do exactly the way it says it does. Well built!
-
Great addition
Jig works exactly as advertized.
-
Great tool, I was very impressed.
Used on cabinet face frames. Lots faster and more accurate than half lap joints.
-
Great tool and beyond my expectations
Great for cabinet face frames, edge panel joining and joint alignment. Money well spent.

Excellent Jig
Usually when using dowels, more than one dowel is needed to give strength to a joint. The problem is in the alignment of the dowel holes with the mating part of the joint. There is no margin for error. This jig provides for two equally sized holes in the jig so that matching the holes to the mating joint yields an exact alignment of the holes. I personally do not know how one can match more than one hole in a joint without using this type of system. I have found this jig to be well made and it works very well for its purpose.

VERY, VERY GOOD
EASY TO USE!!!

Great product
This is a great product, strong, precise, do great job

Very Precise
This is just what I expected. It's very precisely made, and sturdy. Don't buy the cheaper one; you will love this one.

Very good, and economical
The next step up from this tool is about 6 times as expensive. I'll work within the mild limitations of this tool thank-you. Centers well; sometimes just a bit off, but workable with the final sanding. Much easier to place from the end edge if a spacer is used. Just place the jig on a flat surface on end, place a premeasured spacer board in the slot, and place the board to be drilled on top of that. Placement becomes consistant with every board such as putting a face frame together. Tip, make the spacer just a tad less wide than your piece to be drilled; it will slip out of you way after you tighten the clamp. The handle that tightens the whole thing up is too short, and it's, therefore, a bit difficult to pop the jig back open. FOR THE MONEY, it works just fine.

Does not measure up
The bad news: I used the jig for joining some 4 X 1 mitered joints. Joints did not align & were "twisted" even after several attempts. I have since discovered that the same tool is availble under several different names (e.g. Dowl-it, Task, maybe others). There are several different variants (some with fixed drill holes, others with replaceable drill guides). IMO, all will suffer from alignment problems. In addition, the holes are not equally spaced. The good news: Woodcraft was excellent to work with. I was able to return the tool without any problem. I ultimately decided to pony-up the money for a Dowelmax. It's expensive, but it's a joy to use and the results are terrific.

Good features, moderately accurate
I used this jig on a project that had a total of 144 dowels in all the joints. The jig operates just fine. However, some of the joints come out slightly "twisted", so apparently the jig is not always 100% centered. I've had this same problem with every doweling jig I've ever bought, so I think it's just par for the course with these. It's the only jig I've had that has all 4 holes threaded for bushings, which I like. It's also overall larger than other jigs, which I also like. Overall, even with the slight inaccuracy, it's still the best jig I've had.

Use only as Instructed...
I make tracks (12" with dowels for joining) for trolleys to ride on. I thought I could use measurements from the end of the center piece, but the tool is not designed for that. With the help of tech support we figured out no 2 tools were same mic measurement from the either end. Other than that tool works good.

Very accurate results!
Used dowels to connect 1 x 2 vertical supports to front edge of shelving on built-in bookcase.
