Managing the lumber supply can be a challenge in any woodshop, but it’s a problem worth solving.
What Do I Do With This Pile of Wood?
Half the fun of woodworking is finding just the right wood for your next project or two. But, once you get home, where are you going to put it? A great deal on wood at your local Woodcraft can lead to one big mess once you get back without a little bit of careful planning.
Organizing and storing your wood properly will help you spend more time on your project and less time tripping, falling or finding the right piece. Generally speaking, the type of wood pieces you have lying around will determine what type of storage solution you need.
Holiday Gift Ideas with Scott Phillips of The American Woodshop
Scott Phillips has gone shopping at Woodcraft, and the co-host of The American Woodshop on PBS found lots of Christmas gift ideas for the woodworkers and DIYers. A few of the products in the “Phillips Collection” are mentioned here priced between $10 to $150. So for great gifts and stocking stuffers, Woodcraft Santa has got you covered this holiday and Christmas season.

Great Lumber Rack
Bought this rack on sale and it turned out to be a great investment. Plan on buying another one soon. The system is very easy to set up and install, with the use of a stud finder, it took less than 40 minutes to have up and loaded with lumber. The people at Woodcraft in Pelham, Alabama was very helpful and help make the 90 Mile drive worth it.

Nice wood rack
I got two of them as I tend to get a lot of wood at one time a it takes me a while to use it all up. Time will tell on how they hold up, but for now I have no issues. Did put them on a cinderblock wall and the spacers work best if put some double sided tape on them to hold in place.

Poor Quality Control
I did a web search for wood storage racks and this was about the only one out there. I got the rack at a Woodcraft store. One of the uprights had two holes in the back drilled off center so I had to file them larger so that the plactic offset pieces would fit correctly. The third whole was way too small and I had to redrill it. Finally, one of the cross pieces was punched incorrectly. As a result, it doesn't rest 90 degrees to the upright. There are no problems with the paint or other parts. The rack is doing it's job although I don't have it completely loaded yet.

Home Owner Question?
Question I would use to sort/stack wood presently under my back yard deck. The crawl space is too low for this product unless I cut the length in half with a ? hacksaw. Will this work Thanks

Great wood rack
Great, wish I had bought another while on sale. I used 3 1/2 inch screws, solid to the wall.

Simple, High-Quality, Easy to Install
I manage a carpentry shop and bought these to replace our old, cumbersome wood rack made of 2x4s. This simple solution seemed too good to be true, but it was easy to install, sturdy, and takes up very little space in the shop. I highly recommend for beginners and professionals alike.

Best Rack Set Available
Was tired of the many locations and attempts to stack and re-stack my lumber over 40 years of woodworking. This set-up is well engineered, built to last (regardless of what another reviewer posted) simple to install.

not satisfied
have had rack for two years.two of the supports have bent and wood is sliding off.these were not overloaded in any way...would not recommend this rack for anything but the lightest uses it most certainly is not strong enough for use as a lumber rack!!
-

Saved me some space and this rack is overall very functional

A solid rack, easy to install
I bought two and used them to store wood in my shop. They were easy to assemble and install and they hold a lot of boards. I used lag bolts and anchored in wall studs.

Portamate 6 Shelf Wood Rack - GREAT
Great product, easy to instal and makes good use of the wasted area of of my shop. Now I can see what I have on hand without digging thru a pile of material.

I would buy it again.
Easy to install. Holds alot of wood.

Does the job
I mill my own lumber and don't like to throw pieces of hardwood away, but mounting piles of scrap wood are one of my most annoying problems in my shop. This rack, together with a few bins, takes care of that. Have just installed my second set of these. First set has held up fine for a couple of years. You can also put a board across a pair of arms and use it for a shelf.

-

Handy to store my leftover wood
-
Portamate Wood Rack
I have 2 wood racks in my shop - 1 for hardwoods and one for softwoods. I also bought 1 for the shop at church. Very sturdy and handy.
-
Portamate 6 Shelf Wood Rack
This is a good, sturdy, useful shelf/lumber rack system that fits in my crowded garage. I have another similar rack that I like a bit better because the 12" shelf supports are welded to the vertical steel wall supports. Thus it is a more streamlined, simpler design - a little easier to install and in the same price range.

Check your dimensions if adding on
Purchased this brand to add on to existing Triton WoodRack units. They look like the exact same assemblies, but I discovered the Portamate units are smaller(After fully assembling one and mounting it next to a Triton unit of course)! The shelves are not as far apart and the brackets are not as deep as the Triton WoodRack. I did not expect to have to drill new holes for all the bracket screws. The overall height is shorter too, so I was only able to use five of the brackets instead of six. The Portamate is a good product on its own merit and would be fine if that was the only brand you were going to use, although I had to enlarge all of the holes on my initial assembly to keep from stripping the threads on the sheet metal screws. But if you already have some of the Triton brand units, these don't match up like you would expect them to.

Great Product and great price
Stores lumber for projects safely with minimum space needed. Quality product easy to assemble
-
Nice
Nice but I would have liked three or four columes for various lengths, but I just put one long board down on each row then stacked smaller lengths, but very nice and easy to use, looks great and good materials.

Gets the job done...but...
Once installed these are very nice wood racks, but after previously working with the Pinnacle wood rack sold by Woodcraft I found the installation process to be comparatively cumbersome and frustrating. If you're looking to save some money go with the Portamate, if you're looking for a quick and easy install go with the Pinnacle. Either way you'll end up with a quality wood rack.
