Heavy Duty and Supports a Lot of Weight
First of all, these straps and the brackets for them are actually heavy rolled galvanized steel cable racks made by a Canadian company for underground use. So forget the cosmetics. Having said that, these are great for mounting on a wall to support a heavy load of lumber. They weigh a lot and might have a few specs of roughness from the galvanization process on the brackets that you get to go with these. If you are putting finished lumber on them you could easily take a piece of fine sandpaper to quickly smooth off those specs without harming the galvanized finish. I've done this with no problem. You will need to mount them with lag bolts and some large washers because there are no specific mounting holes. But that's not a problem. Just remember that a mounting bolt takes up a slot for a bracket so space the bolts where you won't want a bracket. I bought some at least 15 years ago and again in 2014 and they haven't changed a bit. They are designed for industrial use but for a shop I want something strong and these are incredible. I like the 55 inch straps and would stick with long straps for more support for heavy loads. I use the 18 inch brackets for maximum width. I like at least 3 straps so I can avoid sagging of the lumber in the middle. I have mounted them against cememt block and concrete walls using wall anchors and now have them bolted to posts in a post and beam constructed building.

Cheapened Product.
I bought this same product 7-8 years ago and it came in a slick smooth black finish that was well polished. Absolutely fantastic wood storage system for my garage. I needed more storage for some new hardwood pieces. I thought I would be safe with the same product. This cheapened version that the company is now producing is second rate. The straps that mount to the wall used to have pre-drilled holes for the mounting bolts. The brackets have no finish and are rough enough to scratch up your wood when you stack it, and for that matter your hands while you are mounting them. Still I have not found anything better that I like, but for the price paid on this system I am thoroughly disappointed.
