The Gold Polishing Compound improves the cutting ability of your blades by reducing friction resulting from a surface that has honing scratches. Combined the two work to keep an edge on carving tools that is unsurpassed. Strop after stone sharpening to remove the wire edge burrs, or for the inside radius of different gouges when reshaping is needed. To start stropping apply a small amount of polishing compound to the strop. Hold the tool at a constant angle, apply pressure, and pull the tool across the strop away from the cutting edge. Like any technique practice makes perfect as you work to maintain a razor sharp edge. Not only will they improve your quality of work, they also make carving more enjoyable.

About as simple as a sharpening tool can be, but works great.
Not much to this, but it does the job. I have 2 now - one came with a Flexcut set, and I got another separately. It's amazing to me how sharp you can get carving tools with this. I was going to give 4 instead of 5 stars because every now and then I have to scrape off the polishing compound from the leather and reload, and then thought, "that's not a defect, that's maintenance on the tool". This will keep your razor-sharp tools razor-sharp, and will sharpen any slightly dull tool to a fine edge.

Great Little Kit

Love it!
I've been using this for roughly 10 years now. It really works great but the thing that makes it work great is the stropping compound that comes with it. The various shapes on this strop are great for your carving chisels. I keep it next to me when carving and use it every 15 - 20 minutes or so to touch up the tool I am using. I love it, but the real advantage to this is the stropping compound.

I've just got a chance to use it for the first time and it sharpened my carving tool great.

Works great.
I use this to keep my Flexicut carving tools nice and sharp. The slip strop shapes are very useful in removing the inner burr. The leather could be a little better quality but over all very effective. Really lengthens the time in between sharpenings.

Best I have seen for gouges
Best I have ever seen for gouges. Leaves it so sharp it will make your mama cry! I even use it for flat chisels. The compound is great and leaves it sharp for a long time!

Great Product
Great product! I purchased a beginner set of carving knives but had nothing but old wet stones to keep them sharp. I hadn't had great success keeping pocket knives sharpened with the stones and didn't want to dull my carving knives worse than they were. I carved several projects while trying to figure out the best product to keep them sharp. Found this product and after a few quick passes with this strop I found immediate results. Easy tool maintenance. Really worth the money. Really glad I purchased and tried this strop. Worry about sharpening my carving knives is gone.

The leather clad portions of the strop work well but the profiles don't load up very well with the compound so it's hard to tell if they are working effectively.

Great product, I have a Pfeil 12 tool intermediate carving set and found them to be extremely sharp, but after a few quick passes with this strop I found immediate results. Easy tool maintenance. Really worth the money! A definitely worthy product, but I'd like to see it in a 6in. version.
