Flexcut® KN14 Roughing Knife features a 1-3/4" long blade that is straight. The blade comes to a rounded durable point which is great for duck and decoy carvings, and feathering techniques. Made of high carbon spring steel, the shank of the Large Roughing Knife gives just enough to follow the contour of a carving, eliminating the need to have a handful of traditional tools to finish a single profile. Ergonomic handles designed to provide the secure but relaxed grip necessary when doing detailed work. Flexcut Carving Tools are pre-sharpened at the factory to a highly polished razor's edge. This creates an efficient, long-lasting cutting tool. The more polished the edge, the sharper it is and the longer it will stay sharp.

My main knife for roughing out
I use this Flexcut roughing knife almost exclusively for major shaping of hand-held carvings. I own another knife made by a reputable small company that does hand forging, but don't use it nearly as much as this one. Why? The Flexcut knife has a shallower bevel, and slightly thinner blade overall. Over extended carving sessions, this makes a huge difference. The thinner blade and shallower bevel cut through the basswood with far less hand pressure required. I also find that this knife is easy to sharpen. I mostly use a muslim floppy wheel and special compound, followed by stropping, but every now and then work it over a water-stone. The handle is a bit small and the finish is slick. To correct this, I wrapped the handle in some inexpensive rubberized tape for better grip.

great blade
Cuts extremely well. Only minor complaint is to the fact that it came with no case of blade shield/ cover of any kind.

Large Roughing Knife
As with all of the Flecut carving products this knife is exceptional in quality and workmanship. Great knife and works very well for removing larger cuts from your project.
