Description: This class is for the brand new woodturner and those for whom any association with the lathe may have been many years ago. It is also for those who have recently acquired a lathe or those who are anticipating purchasing one. We will introduce you to the basics of woodturning, the medium we use (wood), some of the things you can do on the lathe, which lathe might be best for you, and how to use it safely. You will be told about all of those other things you will need but nobody told you about - tools, grinders, chucks, drills, sandpaper, finishes, etc. Some of these (tools and grinders) are a necessity, while others are desirable options. You will then sharpen a spindle gouge and a parting tool so you can make some simple beads and coves.
