Description: Spend a few hours in this class and you will go home with a heirloom ring for yourself or someone special. The ring you make will consist of a titanium core and the thinnest of exotic wood exterior. This class does not require prior turning experience, but a good bit of patience goes a long way. Be sure to let us know what size ring you want to create when you sign up for the class. You will also need to decide whether you want a narrow (4mm) or wide (6mm) band. Description: Chip carving is a form of art that originated in Europe long ago. Geometric patterns are drawn on wood and, using special tools, these patterns are carved into the wood. Our class will focus on setting out the patterns and then making the cuts with special chip carving knives. The instructor will explain and demonstrate the different cuts and how to execute them. The student will practice the cuts before attempting his/her first project under the tutelage of our master carver.

In the end, it’s all about “bitmap interpretation.” This class (a deep-dive continuation of CNC 201 Maker Foundation) teaches students to identify the right bitmap for the job, trace it, edit nodes effectively, add / subtract vectors as needed to meet the “interpretation goals,” and toolpath it for machining. Students will also learn when NOT to trace, but “overdraw” instead. PROJECTS: (from bitmap to g-code) shape tracing for objects and ornaments, “logo” tracing for cutting boards, and overdrawing pictures of “real-world objects” … like a knife blade kit for a custom handle!NOTE: This course is recommended for MAKERS and SIGN MAKERS alike … anyone wanting to improve / augment their CNC “drawing skills”.
