Description: This two day class will teach you how to cast pen or project blanks with Alumilite Clear Slow resin. Spend two days with Robert as he guides you through the resin casting process and answers any questions you have pertaining to the casting process. Day one will start with an explanation and demo of the resin casting process. Robert will walk you through the tools and equipment needed as well as talk about the nuances of resin casting , giving tips and tricks along the way. Finish day one by casting your very own pen blanks that you will turn into pens on the second day. On day two, Robert will walk you through how to prepare, turn, and finish the very blank that you cast on day one! Your blank will dress a Wall Street II pen kit. Students will leave the class with what's left of their Alumilite Clear Slow Resin, a pen blank or two, and a completed pen.

Description: This class will cover the basic steps required and answer your questions as you turn your first bowl. Do I want to turn green wood or dry blanks? I don't live on a farm, where do I find the logs to make green blanks? I found someone who wants a tree cut up, what's the best way to cut and store the logs? Where do I find dry blanks? Do they turn different than green blanks? Do I want to use conventional or carbide tools? We will spend the first part of the class discussing these issues as well as any others that you may have – Dave will explain the various choices and alternatives as well as demonstrate the basic mounts and steps involved in making a bowl. Late morning each student will have an opportunity to practice each tool on the practice blank Dave has mounted. Then each student will take a blank "from the tree to the table." Description: If you have mastered basic bowl turning and want to jump to the next level, then this is the class for you. In this class we will cover the use of various tool techniques to achieve the best possible finish on your bowl prior to sanding using both carbide and conventional scrapers and gouges. Dave will also show you a few "tricks" and techniques to enhance the quality of troublesome soft/punky wood and reduce tareout and enhance sanding. We will also cover the basics of sharpening both gouges and scrapers - sharp tools are essential for a quality finish. We will end with disscussion and demonstration of various final finishes and the use of the Beal Buffing System. Description: The furniture that the Shakers built is making an amazing comeback., but what if your skills need polishing in order to join the furniture revolution? This four step classes will take you through the woodworking process. STEP ONE: Material prep will utilize the jointer, planer, table saw, chop saw as well as hand planes. STEP TWO: This step will be in Carcass construction, both traditional and modern carcass making techniques will be demonstrated and used I order to construct the cabinet carcass. Included will be dovetailing. STEP THREE: When most non-woodworkers look at a cabinet, all they see are the doors and drawers. Students will cut a door panel as well as rails and stiles using a router table. STEP FOUR: Making the drawer. Drawers are the most abused form of woodworking. Nothing will undergo the constant open and shut problems that they have to endure. This final Step will teach the student how to properly construct and install the drawer for your cabinet. Prerequisite: Must Be Knowledgeable About Basic Bowl Turning Practices.

Description: This three day class will give you the basic skills necessary to go home and start your own segmented turning project. Spend three days with Dave and he will demonstrate and explain how simple it can be to cut perfect segments and take the stress out of making segmented bowls. Dave will show you how to use the Incra "Modular Jig & Fixture System" to build a sled for cutting segments accurately and consistently with virtually no error correction needed at assembly time. Using this process, you can concentrate on the design and construction of the piece rather then stressing over just making the segments line up and how to get the piece on the lathe and turned without exploding. We can't make glue dry in one day - So on Day one - students will be introduced to and use a sled to cut the accurate size and angles required for each ring. We will then verify accuracy (should not be a problem) - however corrective procedures we be covered - then we will glue up the rings. Day 2 - Students will make and mount the "base" and we will flatten and mount each of the rings. While glue dries we will discuss in depth the construction of the sled and various design and construction options Day three - Glue is now dry and we can actually make a bowl.

Description: The furniture that the Shakers built is making an amazing comeback., but what if your skills need polishing in order to join the furniture revolution? This four step classes will take you through the woodworking process. STEP ONE: Material prep will utilize the jointer, planer, table saw, chop saw as well as hand planes. STEP TWO: This step will be in Carcass construction, both traditional and modern carcass making techniques will be demonstrated and used I order to construct the cabinet carcass. Included will be dovetailing. STEP THREE: When most non-woodworkers look at a cabinet, all they see are the doors and drawers. Students will cut a door panel as well as rails and stiles using a router table. STEP FOUR: Making the drawer. Drawers are the most abused form of woodworking. Nothing will undergo the constant open and shut problems that they have to endure. This final Step will teach the student how to properly construct and install the drawer for your cabinet. If you are interested in beginning woodworking or honing your existing skills, then this is the class for you. Description: We will use the jointer, thickness planer, miter saw, table saw and router table to make two of my favorite utility boxes. The techniques learned in this class can be applied to make a box of any size. Our first requires no hardware. We will make it large enough to hold a 8.5 x 11 ream of paper. Your second box can be any size as well. We will make it 16" x 12" or smaller if you like. I use this style of box to hold items with multiple parts. This style of box also makes an excellent briefcase. Hinges and latches for the second box will be provided as part of your materials. This workshop is project oriented - designed for beginners just getting started or woodworkers wishing to expand their knowledge and skill level. THE BASIC BOWL – FROM TREE TO TABLE. with Dave Sanborn

Description: This class will cover the basic steps required and answer your questions as you turn your first bowl. Do I want to turn green wood or dry blanks? I don't live on a farm, where do I find the logs to make green blanks? I found someone who wants a tree cut up, what's the best way to cut and store the logs? Where do I find dry blanks? Do they turn different than green blanks? Do I want to use conventional or carbide tools? We will spend the first part of the class discussing these issues as well as any others that you may have – Dave will explain the various choices and alternatives as well as demonstrate the basic mounts and steps involved in making a bowl. Late morning each student will have an opportunity to practice each tool on the practice blank Dave has mounted. Then each student will take a blank "from the tree to the table." A 10% discount will be granted to each student on most hand and lathe tools and accessories the day of the class.

Bowl Turning, Beyond The Basics' with Dave Sanborn

Description: If you have mastered basic bowl turning and want to jump to the next level, then this is the class for you. In this class we will cover the use of various tool techniques to achieve the best possible finish on your bowl prior to sanding using both carbide and conventional scrapers and gouges. Dave will also show you a few "tricks" and techniques to enhance the quality of troublesome soft/punky wood and reduce tareout and enhance sanding. We will also cover the basics of sharpening both gouges and scrapers - sharp tools are essential for a quality finish. We will end with disscussion and demonstration of various final finishes and the use of the Beal Buffing System. Students will be granted a 10% disount on most accessories and hand tools the day of the class.
