There will also be a demonstration of various jigs that can be employed with the hand-held router. Description: Pyrography or simply called woodburning can be done on just about any natural surface especially on wood. In this introductory class, Brian will teach students the fundamentals of woodburning while making several decorative holiday ornaments. Brian will cover the equipment necessary to be successful while stressing the importance of safety and how to go about choosing wood and preparing the wood surface. There is an additional materials and equipment fee of $50. This fee includes a basic woodburning kit that students will be able to keep at the end of the class.

Description: If you never picked up a sharp hand tool such as a chisel or hand plane and used it with confidence, this class is for you. If you have worked for decades, but never mastered the use of hand tools, this class is for you. If you want to rely less on the use of machinery, this class will offer you the opportunity. In this first of three sessions, students will become familiar with common hand tools such as chisels, hand planes, cabinet scrapers and hand saws. In addition, students will learn about wood and its properties along with an understanding of how to determine the quantity of wood needed for a project. This session will be augmented with a small project that will reinforce the skills learned. It will also include learning about the proper layout and execution of common wood joinery methods such as dovetails and mortise and tenon joints. This session will be the prerequisite for Sessions 2 and 3 or at the discretion of the instructor. There is an additional materials fee of $50.

Description: The bandsaw is capable of many useful operations in the workshop that include re-sawing, cutting curved parts and an efficient backup to cutting wood when a table saw or chop saw are not practical. In this class, Mickey will explain and demonstrate the basic operation and uses of the bandsaw that also include several useful jigs to maximize the bandsaw's efficiency and accuracy. Students will also learn how to setup and align the machine using various blade sizes and teeth configurations along with proper maintenance practices and trouble shooting.

Description: This class is a continuation of the introductory class. Students will create a project in V-Carve from scratch using additional types of tool paths and tools. There will be more detail lettering, borders, and using clip art to create an image. Pre-requisite for this class is an Introduction to CNC. Because of the long run times needed on the CNC machine for this project, the class will be broken up into two sessions. The first session will run from 9 am until 12:30 pm and the second session from 1 pm until 4:30 pm. Each session will be limited to 2 students. Woodcraft will supply all materials.

Description: Coupled with the knowledge and skills acquired in Sessions 1 and 2, students will be given the opportunity to design and build a piece of furniture based on a number of optional choices that will be discussed with the instructor prior to the start of the session. This will include the actual design and drawing along with estimating the amount of wood and material needed to actually build the piece while under the guidance of the instructor. In addition, more complex and alternate joinery methods and techniques will be explored. In this session, students should be prepared for a longer commitment of time and effort and willing to do homework assignments in between classes over the course of the session. Description: The tablesaw is considered to be the focal point of any well-equipped workshop. This class is designed primarily for the beginner just starting out in woodworking and to introduce students through hands-on experience the safe and proper way of using the tablesaw. Mickey will demonstrate the basic operations of ripping and crosscutting along with the proper setup and blade selection for each of the operations. In addition, various jigs will be demonstrated and used to augment the tablesaw's versatility in making wood joints safely and efficiently.
